<\/p>\n

#1 It\u2019s important to have a strategy<\/h3>\n

How does a good game of tug of war relate to learning? Strategy, of course.\u00a0When\u00a0Oh\u00a0Il-Nam\u00a0(the old man)\u00a0led\u00a0Seong\u00a0Gi-hun\u00a0(our protagonist)\u00a0and his team to victory\u00a0on that brutal tug of war platform, he did so\u00a0with clear\u00a0direction and a robust strategy that left the opposing team tumbling down into\u2026well, let\u2019s gloss over that.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With a bit of careful preparation, revising for the even the toughest exam can be a cinch \u2013 you just need a plan of action, some goals\u00a0and\u00a0\u2013 the hardest part \u2013 a bit of motivation.\u00a0Which leads us nicely onto #2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

#2\u00a0No motivation? Find a motivator!<\/h3>\n

Learning is easy when you\u2019re feeling inspired\u00a0but can feel like a complete\u00a0brain melt when you\u2019re\u00a0not. So, if you\u2019re sat at your desk, scrolling through textbooks with the enthusiasm of a potato, it\u2019s time to whip out the rewards.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t\u00a0the\u00a0thrill\u00a0of\u00a0the game that kept\u00a0our dysfunctional Squid Game<\/a> family competing, it was the 45.6 billion Won (a tasty\u00a0\u00a328.2 million)\u00a0that had them playing marbles to the death!\u00a0Of course, we don\u2019t all have a giant glass piggy bank full of money to motivate us, but you can set yourself some easy rewards\u00a0to spur you on when you hit your study milestones \u2013 maybe an hour of TV, an amazing snack or going for a jog around the block. Whatever floats your boat.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Arguably the only reason Seong Gi-hun made it to Round 5 (the glass stepping-stone bridge) at all was because of the old man.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The lesson here? Listen to the wise and keep them close. You only get a finite amount of time with your lecturers at university \u2013 make the most of their knowledge, they are the experts, after all. It quickly became apparent that for those who went too fast and lost their footing, the game was up.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The same goes for learning. Time management is key \u2013 that means\u00a0setting yourself achievable goals and\u00a0balancing study time with\u00a0<\/span>you<\/span><\/i>\u00a0time.\u00a0To put it in Squid Game terms, it\u2019s about running short distances and not slipping in the sand.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

#5\u00a0Learning is about trial and error<\/h3>\n

At the end of Squid Game Round 2\u00a0\u2013 AKA the honeycomb game \u2013 many players made it to the next round by adopting\u00a0Gi-hun\u2019s\u00a0innovative honeycomb-licking technique. The lesson?\u00a0We learn from the old and develop the new.\u00a0If you think you can do something better, try! That\u2019s the only way to learn,\u00a0innovate\u00a0and move things forward.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a research environment, this attitude is key.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

#6\u00a0Listen\u00a0carefully<\/h3>\n

If there\u2019s one thing we can learn from the glass stepping-stone bridge, it\u2019s that paying attention is important! It only takes one distracted moment to miss the point of a lecture, a book, a study group.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If\u00a0Sae-byeok\u00a0had not been so kind as to tell Gi-hun\u00a0which glass platform she jumped from, it could have been a much darker end for Gi-hun.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

#7\u00a0Check your sources<\/h3>\n

Ali\u00a0Adbul, player 199, was beloved by all of us, especially since saving\u00a0Gi-hun\u00a0in Round 1 (Red Light, Green Light),\u00a0but\u00a0he\u00a0met a sticky end when Cho Sang-woo, one of the game\u2019s\u00a0villians, secretly swapped his bag of marbles for rocks.\u00a0What did he do wrong? He didn\u2019t check the bag!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
