Top 5 lessons 2024 taught me as a student<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

As 2025 begins, it’s the perfect time to look back on the highs, lows, and everything in between from the past year. For many students, this year may have been one of adaptation, growth, and self-discovery. University life isn\u2019t just about studying\u2013 it\u2019s about learning life lessons that shape who we are.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Here are the top five lessons 2024 taught me as a student.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1. Time management is a skill, not a superpower<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Time management is one of those things that everyone talks about, but few of us have truly mastered. This year, I realised it\u2019s not about cramming every possible task into a day but learning how to prioritise what\u2019s most important. Whether it was juggling assignments, attending club meetings, or making time for friends, 2024 taught me that perfectionism is the enemy of productivity.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I discovered tools that made my life easier \u2013Kortext\u2019s highlighting and flashcard features made sure I stayed organised. Most importantly, I learned to accept that some days wouldn\u2019t be as productive as I wanted \u2013 and that\u2019s okay. Progress is progress, even if it\u2019s slow.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2. It\u2019s okay to ask for help<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

If there\u2019s one thing 2024 hammered home, it\u2019s this: nobody can do everything alone. Whether it was asking for clarification in a seminar, leaning on friends when I felt overwhelmed, or seeking out wellbeing services when stress hit hard, I learned that asking for help isn\u2019t a sign of weakness \u2013 it\u2019s a sign of self-awareness.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

University life can be tough<\/span>,<\/span> and<\/span>,<\/span> sometimes, just admitting that you\u2019re struggling is the first step toward feeling better. I found that lecturers were more understanding than I expected when I reached out, and my friends were always ready to listen without judg<\/span>e<\/span>ment. The sooner you recognise you need support, the faster you can get back on track.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Rest is as important as hustle<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

In the whirlwind of deadlines, part-time jobs, and social obligations, it\u2019s easy to neglect rest. But this year, I reali<\/span>z<\/span>s<\/span>ed just how crucial it is to take a step back. Burnout isn\u2019t a badge of honour \u2013 it\u2019s a sign you\u2019ve pushed too hard for too long.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I learnt to schedule rest into my week, whether it was a guilt-free afternoon binge-watching Netflix or heading to bed earlier than usual. Sleep became a priority; nothing kills productivity faster than exhaustion. 2024 taught me that it\u2019s okay to say \u201cno\u201d sometimes. Your mental and physical health should always come first.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

4. The power of community<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

One of the most rewarding aspects of university life in 2024 was realising how much we rely on each other. Whether it was collaborating on group projects, venting about coursework over coffee, or hyping each other up before exams, the sense of camaraderie I felt this year made even the toughest times more bearable<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Joining societies and clubs was a game-changer for me. It wasn\u2019t just about making friends \u2013 it was about finding people with shared interests and passions. The connections I built this year reminded me that university isn\u2019t just an academic journey; it\u2019s a social one too. When you surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you, everything feels a little easier.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

5. Success looks different for everyone<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n

If I could sum up my biggest takeaway from 2024, it would be this: success is deeply personal. Social media makes it easy to compare yourself to others, whether it\u2019s someone landing their dream internship or smashing every assignment. But I learned that comparison is the thief of joy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Not everyone\u2019s university journey looks the same, and that\u2019s okay. For some, success means getting top grades; for others, it\u2019s building connections or simply surviving the chaos of uni life.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, I will focus on celebrating my own wins, no matter how small \u2013 whether it is finishing a challenging essay or stepping out of my comfort zone to try something new.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Moving forward to 2025<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

As I look ahead to this year, I know I\u2019ll be carrying these lessons with me. What has 2024 taught you? Take some time to reflect on the lessons you\u2019ve learned this year \u2013 big or small \u2013 and think about how they can guide you moving forward.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
