Starting my second year at Middlesex University has reminded me how challenging it can be to find the right balance between studying and having a life outside the classroom. University isn’t just about lectures, assignments, and deadlines; it\u2019s also about exploring the things that inspire and motivate you beyond your degree. Finding hobbies and interests that keep you grounded can make all the difference to your university experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the best ways to unwind and meet new people is by joining clubs and societies. Most universities, including Middlesex, offer a wide range of options that cater to different interests, backgrounds, and identities. From religious and cultural societies to creative, academic, and sports clubs, there really is something for everyone.<\/span><\/p>\n

These spaces are perfect for building friendships, discovering new passions, and finding a sense of belonging. Some would say it\u2019s like \u201chome from home,\u201d especially if you are an international student or living away from family for the first time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not everyone thrives in big social settings, and that\u2019s also okay. If you tend to be more introverted like me, you can still find meaningful ways to relax and recharge through solo hobbies. My own passions lie in music, film, writing, fashion and health. Whether I’m curating playlists, writing poetry, watching my comfort shows or trying new healthy recipes after the gym, these moments help me reconnect with myself outside of my studies and part-time jobs. Your hobby doesn’t need to be loud or social to be fulfilling; what matters is that it brings you joy and balance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s often said that university is about stepping out of your comfort zone, and that is true, but it’s equally important to be comfortable in your own space. Growth isn\u2019t only academic; it\u2019s also mental, emotional, and physical. University gives you a rare window of time to learn who you are and what makes you happy. Developing healthy habits, trying new things, and making time for yourself will all help you evolve into a more confident and well-rounded version of yourself, ready for whatever comes next.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So yes, study hard and have fun, but make it your mission to find what truly feeds your soul. Prioritise your health, set personal goals, and embrace hobbies or societies that help you recharge. Whether it\u2019s joining a club or spending time on your own creative passions, remember: balance isn\u2019t about doing everything, it\u2019s about doing what makes you feel most like you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
