Accessibility first – June 2025 platform enhancements

We’re excited to announce that our latest product release, arriving on 10 June 2025, introduces the most accessible interface yet for the Kortext study platform, along with a range of other enhancements.

In response to the European Accessibility Act coming into force on 25 June 2025, we’ve made around 100 improvements to our eReader to ensure that everyone who uses our platform has the best possible experience.

We’re now also proud to be compliant with the standards in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 level AA.

We’ve enhanced accessibility in our eReader for:

  • Non-text content
We’ve improved the way icons and controls are interpreted by screen readers, enhancing the experience of visually impaired learners on our platform.
  • Navigation and structure
We’ve widened the reach of coded semantic structure to headings, lists and defined page regions to make the navigation of our eReader more intuitive to assistive technologies.
  • Time efficiency
Users will benefit from the opportunity to bypass repetitive content through the introduction of a ‘skip’ button.
  • Keyboard shortcuts
All features on our eReader are now fully operable using keyboard-only controls, now inclusive of the search bar, bookmarks, notes and our newest smart study tool, flashcards.
  • Visual focus areas
Colour is no longer the sole indicator of focus area in our eReader. We’ve introduced an underline for highlighted sections of text and a purple border to indicate keyboard shortcut focus areas to assist users with colour vision deficiency.
  • Screen reader compatibility
We’ve retested upgraded screen reader technologies with our eReader and are proud to maintain a fully compatible experience for blind and low-vision users.

Outside of accessibility enhancements, our June release has introduced subtle optimisations in key areas of the platform that will elevate the overall user experience on Kortext study.
