#GoGreen, a new campaign supporting reforestation to combat the impacts of publishing on sustainability, is launching today in support of the United Nations’ International Day of Forests.

300 million tons of paper are consumed every year by the journal publishing industry alone. Add to that books, textbooks, newspapers and magazines across academic and commercial sectors and it is clear to see the impact the publishing industry has on deforestation. Founded by Kortext, #GoGreen will reduce this impact by planting a tree for every eBook sold on their webstore during the campaign.

As part of the campaign, a new Green Paper has been published which further explores the impacts of publishing on the environment. The paper explores traditional vs digital publishing, as well as the effects of buying printed materials from a bookstore vs online retailers.

Yaz El Hakim, Director of Learner Experience at Kortext said “We, alongside our thousands of publisher partners, are committed to promoting sustainability in publishing by encouraging readers to consider digital content first. I’m delighted that we are able to support the United Nations’ International Day of Forests by announcing our promise to plant a tree for every eBook we sell.”

Kortext will be working with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organisation focused on global reforestation, to help plant trees in North America, Latin America, Asia and Africa.
