Kortext, the UK’s leading eTextbook and personal learning platform, has been ranked number 1 in the recent Jisc ASPIRE Accessibility National Audit. The audit reviewed over 580 digital content websites and platforms to determine the support for accessibility along with the availability and quality of information provided. Kortext took the top spot ahead of all other platforms supplying UK universities.

Launched in January 2018, the ASPIRE project aims to promote an improved digital reading experience by helping to ensure that accessibility is centre stage. Having information on accessibility that is easy to find, contains everything that individuals and disability support teams need is extremely important in helping ensure maximum inclusion in terms of access to, and use of, digital content. It also promotes the thinking around enhancing accessibility issues in terms of platform design.

Accessibility has been receiving worldwide attention over the last few years as more content moves online and more learning occurs online. Important legislation in the US, Canada, the UK and the rest of Europe has been passed to ensure equality of the learning experience for all.

Speaking on Kortext’s involvement in the project, Alistair McNaught, Accessibility Specialist at Jisc, said,

Kortext have been highly supportive of the ASPIRE audit, taking an active part in steering group meetings and training opportunities. We are really pleased to see how the process has shaped the information they provide for customers and congratulate them on their result.

Cathie Gibbens, Product Director at Kortext commented,

We are delighted that we have been judged best in class in this important area.  As the leading digital textbook aggregator, we are committed to working with both Jisc and our publisher partners to continually improve accessibility. As we build advanced functionality to support students we will always pursue the goal of equal, inclusive access for all learners.
