Data Foundry
Experience the accuracy of our engagement algorithm using your historical student data. See how we predict potential withdrawals and identify critical support windows, proving the value of StREAM before full deployment.
Take the first steps in using data for student success and retention
A Data Foundry Report uses your institution’s data to show what engagement looks like at cohort, course, module and individual level, and how intervention strategies could help improve progression and attainment outcomes for your students.
Want to know more before requesting one? We’re always happy to have a chat and see how we can help benefit students.
Foundry reports have shown that on average between 80-90% of students who went onto withdraw had previously been identified as low engagers.
How does it work?
Request to run a data foundry
We’ll arrange an initial chat to guide you through it
Send us 2-3 data extracts from your most used digital platforms, along with student details for the same period
Data is processed through the StREAM algorithm
Our experts break down our engagement analysis in a presentation to your institution
You’ll be provided with a summary of the findings
Ready to run a Data Foundry?
Discover what engagement looks like for you
Whether it’s for university, faculty or school, we’ll use your data to give you a picture of what engagement could look like for you based on your historical data.
Want to know how many students you could have retained?
A data foundry will be able to show you how many students StREAM would have identified that went on to withdraw.
Explore everything StREAM has to offer
If you’re not quite sure if your university could fully commit to StREAM, a data foundry is a great first step in getting you familiar with the kinds of insights and impact StREAM could have for your institution.

Data Foundry FAQs
What is a Data Foundry?
Data Foundry is an opportunity to apply the StREAM engagement algorithm to a historical snapshot of your student data as a proof point in terms of accuracy at predicting those students who went on to withdraw and the point at which those students moved into a risk category, which shows the window of opportunity available to the university to offer support.
Why complete a Data Foundry?
A Data Foundry will demonstrate the effectiveness of the StREAM algorithm on actual student data from your institution. If you are unsure whether StREAM is for you, a data foundry will showcase the insights you can receive in real time, with a full deployment of StREAM.
What insights will it show?
Data Foundry provides insights on student engagement across the institution, from university down to faculty, department, subject and programme level. It will be possible to identify outliers in your data sets where engagement patterns differ from the norm (e.g. part-time study or distance learning courses), enabling you to pinpoint where to target limited time and resource to help academic programmes meet institutional and sector metrics around student success, continuation and retention.
What can I do with the data?
The Data Foundry report will be available to the university to support your business case for the full deployment of StREAM where student engagement data will be available to you in real time.
Can I do it just for my school or faculty?
Yes, a Data Foundry can be undertaken on different business units.
How much of my time does a Data Foundry take?
Data Foundry relies upon the university providing relevant data. The minimum we require is the student record set for a full academic year and the activity data for the same students for the same academic year. VLE records are essential, but additional data points, such as library data, are also useful. We will provide a data definition that details the format in which we need the data provided.
Some contextual information is also useful as this helps us to appropriately interpret your data for the presentation.
The presentation itself will take about an hour.
